The guest speaker for our July luncheon meeting is Mr. Tom Martin Davis. Mr. Davis attended VMI his rat [freshman]
year and transferred to the
University of Texas
receiving a BA degree in 1959. He then
attended UT law school and graduated in 1962 then went with
Butler
, Binion, Rice, Cook & Knapp in
Houston
from 1962 to 1987, as a trial and labor attorney.
In 1987 he started his own law firm, Davis & Shank, handling law suits
only and then he retired from the law practice in 2007.
Mr. Davis is a director of the Texas Map Society; a member of the board of trustees
of the San Jacinto Museum of History; a member of the board of the
Huffington Center
on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine; and a member of the board of the Houston
Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Mr. Davis relates that “My
grandfather, Dewitt C. Dunn, was a member of The Sons of the
Republic of Texas
and I will try to find his application to better inform me of the factual basis
for the application. I recall that
it told of one of his predecessors supplying the Texian troops with food shortly
before the battle of
San Jacinto
. My great-great-grandfather, Thomas
Hogan, was sheriff of
Harris County
from 1854-58”.
